Who We Are

EXT Life Sciences, Inc. (EXT), is a biotechnology company, engaged in the development and marketing of catalase-based compounds, designed to prevent oxidative damage to cells and tissues. Specifically, our technologies are designed to prevent, reduce, or eliminate the cellular accumulation of certain highly destructive reactive oxygen species (ROS), often referred to as “free radicals” or “oxidants”.

What We Do

EXT’s technologies arise out of published discoveries made by the company founders, Drs. Stanley R. Terlecky and Paul A. Walton, of Wayne State University School of Medicine and the University of Western Ontario, who observed that peroxisomes of aged cells were functionally compromised, unable to efficiently import their constituent enzymes, especially the antioxidant enzyme catalase. These changes led to the excessive production of hydrogen peroxide and other ROS known to damage critical cellular components, including proteins, DNA, lipids, and biological membranes. EXT’s strategy is to address the critical role that catalase plays in the aging process and various degenerative diseases, where oxidants are a factor, by genetically engineering a form of catalase that is more efficiently imported into the peroxisome, known as Catalase-SKL. Our goal is to utilize Catalase-SKL technologies to reduce or eliminate the cellular production of excess hydrogen peroxide and other harmful oxidants, thereby eliminating or reversing oxidative stress faced by humans, mammals and other organisms.

Licensing and Collaborative Research Opportunities

EXT’s technologies have a number of potentially beneficial applications in the medical, consumer and other industries – wherever oxidants are known to cause damage, contribute to disease, or accelerate the aging process. Collaborative research, development, and licensing opportunities are available from EXT. Please contact John I. Tesija at tesija@extlifesciences.com for additional information.
